Biathlon: the first provisional start list for the women’s mass start has been published
On Wednesday, after the individual biathlon at the Milan/Cortina 2026 Olympic Games, the organisers published a first provisional start list for the closing mass-start, scheduled for Saturday 21 February from 14:15.
In this category, the individual medallists – Julia Simon, Lou Jeanmonnot and Bulgarian sensation Lora Hristova – are in the top three places, followed by the members of the overall World Cup top 15.
Sweden’s Hanna Oeberg, Anna Magnusson and Elvira Oeberg, Finland’s Suvi Minkkinen, Italy’s Lisa Vittozzi and Dorothea Wierer, Norway’s Maren Kirkeeide, Germany’s Franziska Preuss, Switzerland’s Amy Baserga and Austria’s Lisa Theresa Hauser are all on the list, as are France’s Camille Bened, Justine Braisaz-Bouchet and Océane Michelon. In order to respect the quotas, the staff will have to keep just two for the queens’ race.
The remaining fifteen places are occupied by the best individual riders. Logically, Germany’s Vanessa Voigt, fourth in the race, is at the top of the provisional list of qualifiers. Her compatriot Janina Hettich-Walz, Switzerland’s Lea Meier, Sweden’s Linn Gestblom, the Czechs Tereza Vobornikova and Tereza Vinklarkova, Moldova’s Alina Stremous and Norway’s Marthe Kraakstad Johansen, the Ukrainians Oleksandra Merkushyna and Khrystyna Dmytrenko, the Belgian Lotte Lie, the American Margie Freed, the Latvian Baiba Bendika, the Pole Natalia Sidorowicz and the Canadian Pascale Paradis are also on the list.
During the sprint/chase sequence at the weekend, the situation could change considerably.
