Cross-country skiing : Jonna Sundling and Maja Dahlqvist take gold
Late morning, in bright sunshine, the final of the skateboard team sprint at the Milan/Cortina Olympic Games was contested. In this spectacular and intense format, the Tesero stadium (Italy) was once again alive with excitement. In a race that got off to a flying start, Sweden’s Jonna Sundling and Maja Dahlqvist dominated the proceedings to take the gold medal.

Jessie Diggins set a blistering pace on the first lap, quickly stretching out the field. Behind her, the pace never let up and the whole race was an intense battle. On her second run, Swedish first-choice relay rider Jonna Sundling took off alone in the lead. Behind her, a group of nine teams were in pursuit of the Scandinavian team.
“My aim was to give Maja [Dahlqvist] the clearest lead. I had to perform well. I was serene and confident. It’s true that the Zorzi is long and hard with the sequence. You have to ski the whole way and put your power into it,” Jonna Sundling toldEurosport.

Behind them, the Swedes maintained the lead, while the battle for second place raged on. On the last lap, Sweden’s Maja Dahlqvist appeared to be in trouble on the final climb, while Nadine Faehndrich of Switzerland set off in pursuit.

In the final straight, Maja Dahlqvist maintained a slight advantage and won by one second four ahead of the Swiss Nadja Kaelin and Nadine Faehndrich.
“We knew we were favourites on paper. Everything had to go right to get the gold. Jonna [Sundling] was monstrous in her first stints […] In the last lap, I could have added more if it had been tighter. But I knew it was won at the top of the Zorzi. It’s fantastic to share this, it’s the whole team’s medal,” Maja Dahlqvist toldEurosport.

Germany’s Laura Gimmler and Coletta Rydzek took bronze after a splendid final straight, narrowly edging out Norway’s Astrid Oeyre Slind and Julie Bjervig Drivenes.
Léonie Perry and Mélissa Gal seventh
In the French camp, Léonie Perry and Mélissa Gal had a complete race. Despite a small crash for the Bressaude during the first relay, they managed to come back into contact. Still in the pack, the French remained in contention for the bronze medal until the final lap.

“We were in the leading group right up to the end, and I’m not taking Sweden into account. I missed some on the last climb, but it’s great for both of us. We proved that we were among the best today,” commented Mélissa Gal on France Télévisions.
Léonie Perry added: “We gave it our all, and seventh place is already a great result. Mél’ and I tried to beat the French women’s record.

In the end, Mélissa Gal finished the relay in seventh place, close to the French team record at the Olympic Games and the sixth place achieved by Aurore Jean and Célia Aymonier in 2014 in Sochi (Russia).
