2026 Olympics | Cross-country skiing: a medal snatched in the final sprint
In the women’s cross-country skiing team sprint at the Milan/Cortina 2026 Olympic Games, Sweden outclassed the competition. Behind them, it was a battle of several teams for the medals. The German team – reigning Olympic champions in the format – held on to the lead for a long time, but managed to climb onto the podium in the last lap.

In the final run of the relay, Laura Gimmler launched her team-mate into fourth place behind Sweden, Finland and the United States. On the final lap of the race, Finland’s Jasmin Kähärä crashed out of the silver medal race. Switzerland’s Nadine Faehndrich came out on top by accelerating in the final loop.
The battle for bronze was then between Germany and Norway. In the final straight, German cross-country skier Coletta Rydzek made the most of her speed to win the first medal for German cross-country skiing at the 2026 Olympic Games.
