15:00. Immense disappointment for Nadine Faehndrich on Tuesday in Tesero (Italy). She was eliminated from the quarter-finals of the Olympic sprint in classic style.
The Lucerne native, who had set the 5th fastest time in qualifying, stalled in the final straight after leading the race. At the finish line, she was 2’05 slower than the favourite Linn Svahn, ahead of her compatriot Anja Weber. Weber and third-placed Swiss Lea Fischer also fell by the wayside.
In the men’s competition, Valerio Grond, Noe Naeff and Janik Riebli, although all prominent in the qualifying rounds, also failed to qualify for the semi-finals.
The Swiss will have a chance to bounce back next week in the skating team sprint, where Grond and Riebli will be lining up, as will the women’s duo Faehndrich-Weber.
