Cross-country skiing: the Klæbo signature
In the cross-country skiing stadium in Tesero (Italy), Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo put on an explosive display of speed to win the men’s classic sprint at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Games.
Already double Olympic sprint champion, the Scandinavian broke away in the final metres of the final, setting a pace that no-one could follow. As the peloton entered the decisive phase, the Norwegian literally changed gear: a more powerful stride, perfect tactical placement and an ability to make the most of the hard snow on the Lago di Tesero enabled him to pull away from his rivals.
This ability to accelerate up hills, in a classic, has become his signature. Where his rivals tried to maintain their pace, he increased the frequency and hardened his grip on the poles, transforming the slope into a breaking zone. In just a few seconds, the gap was closed.
