Nordic Combined: Laurent Muhlethaler admits he was powerless after finishing 20th
Twentieth in the Nordic combined event on the big hill at the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games, Laurent Muhlethaler made no excuses. Speaking to L’Équipe and France 3, the Frenchman gave a raw account, marked by fatigue and frustration.
“I have the impression that I’m not in good shape. I can’t work miracles. I gave it my all today. Lucid about his performance, the Jurassien doesn’t hide his disappointment: “If the results are bad, it’s clear that I didn’t come here to do this. But I did it and that’s been my level for several weeks. I gave it my all and I have no regrets today.

He describes the Games as particularly difficult. “It’s been an ordeal. I’ve been going through hell for the last 15 days. I’ll never have good memories of all the Olympics I’ve done. Strong words, reflecting the weight he has carried.
He describes the negative spiral in no uncertain terms : “I didn’t build up my confidence for a long time. I had a few little problems. The longer it went on, the tenser I got. The more I buried myself. It started with cross-country skiing. Then it affected me on the springboard. According to him, the very approach of the Games may have had something to do with it: “I think a bit about the approach of the Olympics, about feeling less well. I’m kind of falling into the trap.
Despite this, the Frenchman insists that he has given his all and does not want to compete in the sprint team. “I’ll be happy to go home. I’ll be happy to encourage my mates for the team sprint. I know they can do great things. I’ll pass on the baton.
He concludes: “I can’t take it any more. I hope to do well in my future life as an estate agent. It’s a snapshot in time, but I can’t see myself going much further.
