2026 Olympic Games | Biathlon: Sturla Holm Lægreid wins Olympic bronze for his first podium finish of the winter season
Emotions ran high at the finish of the individual biathlon at the Milan/Cortina 2026 Olympic Games. Starting two minutes after his compatriot Johan-Olav Botn, a tanned Sturla Holm Lægreid won his first solo Olympic medal. Ten days shy of his 29th birthday, the Norwegian biathlete also climbed onto the podium for the first time this winter.

A result that did not leave him indifferent, as the Scandinavian skier broke down in tears shortly after his arrival. An emotion felt by the entire Norwegian clan. No doubt the tragic death of their team-mate Sivert Guttorm Bakken played a part in this emotional moment.
“I only have eyes for her. I wish I could share all this with her”.Sturla Holm Laegreid speaks to NRK
Overwhelmed by emotion, Sturla Holm Lægreid also confessed to NRK that she was thinking of someone dear to her: “There’s someone I wanted to tell you about, even if she might not be watching today. Six months ago, I met the love of my life. The most beautiful and kindest person in the world, but three months ago I made my biggest mistake: I cheated on her”, he says with tears in his eyes.

Then, when talking about his performance, he returned to the subject of his ex-girlfriend. “I had a gold medal in my life, and many people probably look at me differently today, but I only have eyes for her. Sport has been a bit different over the last few days. I’d like to be able to share all that with her,” he concludes.
