Cross-country skiing : Alvar Myhlback, Anton Grahn and Johanna Hagstroem return to Sweden
The best Swede in the sprint on Wednesday in Tesero (Italy) with a ninth place, Alvar Myhlback will not be competing in any other events at these Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina 2026. The 19-year-old cross-country skier is returning to Sweden, along with Anton Grahn (tenth in the sprint), after being excluded from the selections for the relays (relay and team sprint) and the remaining distance events (individual and 50km).
For Lars Ljung, coach of the Swedish men’s team, the choice was primarily a sporting one, as he explained to Sportbaldet: “His results in skating are not convincing enough and, if we look at the classic races this season, three other athletes have better results.
National coach Anders Bystroem added that the young Swede didn’t feel totally ready for the 50km classic : “ He himself explained that he wanted to be perfectly prepared to perform in the 50km and that he didn’t have that feeling.
In the women’s category, sprinter Johanna Hagstroem is also leaving Italy. Not selected for the sprint team.
