Ski jumping : a letter and chocolates
It’s a story as unlikely as it is reassuring for the Norwegian camp. Last weekend, in Willingen (Germany), after a World Cup ski jumping round, several pieces of equipment – helmets, goggles and boots – belonging to Marius Lindvik and Johann André Forfang in particular, went missing. A theft that was worrying, to say the least, just a few days before the start of the Games, and which plunged the delegation into a state of shock.

But there was an unexpected twist on Friday. As Aftonposten reports, coach Jan-Erik Aalbu received a parcel sent from Germany by the Willingen organisers. Inside: all the stolen equipment.
The perpetrators of the theft attached a letter of apology, admitting in no uncertain terms that they had “done something very stupid” after a night of drinking too much. Referring to a blackout lasting several hours, they said they had never wanted to harm the athletes and offered their “sincere apologies” to the Norwegian team. The letter was accompanied by an unexpected treat: chocolates.
This provoked a mixture of disbelief and relief on the Norwegian side. Fortunately for Lindvik, Forfang and their team-mates, the story ended without any sporting consequences.
