Biathlon : Johannes Thingnes Boe does not want to isolate himself before the Worlds
Before the festive season, Johannes Thingnes Boe rounded off his 2024 year in style by climbing onto the podium alongside his brother Tarjei in the mass start of the biathlon world cup in Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie). And yet, a few days later, the Norwegian had a much less festive New Year’s Eve.

Speaking to TV2, the world number one revealed that he had been ill over Christmas. And he wasn’ t the only one to contract the virus. “I was very tired and it was very boring. My family and I stayed in bed for most of the festive season,” he said on his arrival in the Thuringian forest.
And so it’s with no certainty about his form that the Scandinavian is preparing to defend his chances this weekend in Germany. “We didn’t make the plans we had for the festive season. We took a short trip to a chalet for New Year’s Eve and that was a bit of a change of scenery,” he says. I managed to come to Oberhof. If you want to fight for the yellow jersey, you have to be at the start of every race. It’s as simple as that.

Johannes Thingnes Boe is going to have to negotiate a new World Cup period well, with three weeks of competitions coming up. ” After travelling for three weeks, I think it’s a good idea to take a break and devote myself to other activities,” he says ahead of the world championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland).

However, even if he doesn’ t necessarily agree with the idea of preserving himself within a ‘bubble ‘ until the Worlds, the current yellow number on the circuit could well make sacrifices if the situation doesn’t improve at home: “If they’re not in good health at home, I can stay here longer. But the plan is to go home and spend a week in Sjusjøen,” he adds.
