Biathlon: France on cloud nine at the World Championships in Lenzerheide
For just over a week now, the French biathlon team has been on top of the world biathlon championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland). After eight out of twelve events, Les Bleus have now won ten medals, including five golds.
The latest came on Thursday afternoon in the mixed singles relay. With Julia Simon and Quentin Fillon-Maillet at the start, two former winners of this event at the World Championships, France won, continuing its magnificent series.
“It’s been a crazy World Championships for the French team, Julia Simon enthused to La Chaîne L’Equipe before accepting her gold medal. It’s fantastic! Last year, we said we’d had an incredible World Cup, that it was great, and this year, we’re on the right pace too. It’s almost even better because we’re also seeing the boys’ team perform well. It’s unbelievable that we’re all racing really well together, we’re in a great dynamic!”
“I think other nations are starting to get fed up with us being out in front”
During the race, the rider from Beaufort felt that she and her Jura team-mate had achieved “a very good team effort”. “We complemented each other very well: I started the race very well and Quentin [Fillon-Maillet] finished very well. [In this format], you have to know how to complement each other and we did that very well”, she analysed, happy from a personal point of view “to have held her own”.
Quentin Fillon-Maillet, for his part, explained that his world championships, with one gold and two bronze medals, were beginning “to have a taste of success”. “I think other nations are starting to get fed up with us being out in front”, he added. On Saturday and Sunday, in the relay and mass start events, the French team will be out to win more medals.
