Biathlon: Les Bleus top the relay table
On Sunday, France dominated the gender relays at the Biathlon World Cup in Nove Mesto (Czech Republic).
First, Emilien Claude, Oscar Lombardot, Fabien Claude and Quentin Fillon-Maillet won the men’s race in superb style. Then Lou Jeanmonnot, Océane Michelon, Justine Braisaz-Bouchet and Julia Simon, the reigning world champions in the speciality, won the women’s race.
It’s not the first time that the French team has managed to win both relays in a single World Cup stage. A look back at the archives reveals that this was the case on 21 and 22 January 2012 in Antholz (Italy). Marie-Laure Brunet, Sophie Boilley, Anaïs Bescond and Marie Dorin-Habert won, as did Jean-Guillaume Béatrix, Simon Fourcade, Alexis Bœuf and Martin Fourcade.
The other similar case dates back… to 16 January 1994 in Ruhpolding (Germany). In one of biathlon’s meccas, Corinne Niogret, Véronique Claudel, Delphyne Burlet and Anne Briand, followed by Thierry Dusserre, Patrice Bailly-Salins, Lionel Laurent and Hervé Flandin, triumphed.
Sunday 9 March 2025 will be a milestone in the history of biathlon in France.
