Biathlon: Johannes Thingnes Boe loves football
Although it has long been known that Norwegian biathlete Johannes Thingnes Boe will be calling time on his immense career at the end of the 2025/2026 season, the future of the native of Stryn (Norway) is still unknown.
However, speaking to TV2 on Wednesday morning, he revealed one of his dreams: to become involved with the football club in Kongsvinger (Norway), a town of just over 8,000 inhabitants where he settled a few years ago. Kongsvinger IL Topfotball, founded in 1892 and runners-up in Norway in 1992, currently plays in the Norwegian second division.
When he is at home, Johannes Thingnes Boe regularly attends matches at the Gjemselund stadion. “I love sport and football, he admits. Kongvinger is a football town, so there probably won’t be any biathlon at the start, I think, so I’d rather go to the stadium.”
A position in the club’s marketing department?
“I hope he ends up contributing his hard work [for our club], replies Espen Nystuen, the club’s sporting director. He could then become a major asset!” With a smile, the manager goes on to say that he could see the biathlon champion working with the club’s marketing manager. “He’d push him out the door,” he jokes.
Johannes Thingnes Boe, for his part, wants to continue to be part of a performance-based environment. “Like a team, he says. That’s probably what I’ll miss most when I retire. If I had the chance to continue working in that environment for a while, not immediately, but at least in the long term, I think it would be a good thing.”

Finally, Espen Nystuen points out that having Johannes Thingnes Boe among the Kongsvinger fans is “very good publicity”. Only time will tell whether the collaboration between the two parties will take a different turn in the coming years.
