Biathlon: a programme to be developed over the coming months for Lisa Vittozzi
In the last few days, after the traditional return to training of the Nordic athletes, one of the coaches of the Italian biathlon team, Edoardo Mezzaro, remained cautious about the return to form and an excellent level of Lisa Vittozzi, the great absentee of the 2024/2025 winter.

The Italian has indeed returned to training, but on her own. For the moment, the winner of the Crystal Globe in 2024 is training on her own to get back into the swing of things. A choice made in agreement with her coaches, including Alex Inderst.
“She’s started training and she’s already on the right track. But you can’t impose heavy workloads on her,” the Italian coach told Fondo Italia . “You have to do things little by little and then get her back to doing everything the way she used to. That’s why she has a personalised programme at the start of her preparation.

However, the Italian biathletes’ coach is reassuring about his protégée’s physical and mental recovery after a season away from competition. “I think she suffered a lot from not being able to take part in the World Cup and defend her title. But at a certain point, she realised that it wasn’t all bad and that this break had perhaps been necessary,” he explains. She regained her mental energy and the desire to train to come back into contention.
“It should be close to the workload imposed on the group by mid-summer”.Alex Inderst at Fondo Italia
” She should be close to the workload imposed on the group by mid-summer. She’ll be back in the team towards the end of August or in September,” he adds. She won’t be doing too many long training sessions over several weeks. She should be in Munich for the IBU show. However, we haven’t yet decided where she will finish her preparation.

And with the Olympic Games on home soil looming for Lisa Vittozzi, Alex Inderst believes that the Italian’s winter will have to be carefully planned. “We’re aware that this will be a special winter for her. For that reason, we’ll see if she takes part in all the World Cup stages,” he says. We’re also looking at the possibility of skipping certain stages between the end of December and the beginning of January to do some training periods. As she has already won the World Cup, her objective will obviously be to perform at the Games.
