Biathlon: French women win the double at Altenberg
Up until then, at the European Junior Biathlon Championships in Altenberg (Germany), France had won four medals. Three in silver and one in bronze. So gold was out of the question for Les Bleus. But on Saturday afternoon, in the women’s sprint, France’s first title finally arrived.
Grenoble’s Anaëlle Bondoux, who scored 9/10 on the mats, won the gold medal. By far the fastest of all the biathletes taking part, she beat her compatriot Coralie Perrin (10/10) by 2.6 seconds. For her second international bib, the Féclazienne, just a few days after a fiftieth-place finish in the individual event, ran a full race to win silver and a great deal of joy.

Germany’s Charlotte Gallbronner (10/10) took bronze 14.7 seconds ahead of team-mate Lotta De Buhr (9/10). Célia Henaff (8/10), fifth, made one fault too many to hope for a place on the podium, while the Czech Ilona Plechacova (9/10) closed the flower ceremony in sixth place.
Among the other French girls, Louise Roguet (7/10) was fourteenth, Eva Laine (7/10) twenty-first, Lola Bugeaud (7/10) twenty-second and Pauline Machut (7/10) thirty-fifth.
