Biathlon: no disqualification but a warning for Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold
On Thursday, Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold suffered a rare mishap during the biathlon World Cup sprint in Antholz (Italy). As she was heading for her last shot of the day, the Norwegian felt her rifle drop. Holding her gun as best she could, the Scandinavian made her way to the shooting range, where she still managed to clear four of the five targets in these conditions.
Although she said in the mixed zone that she had “never experienced anything like this before”, the 28-year-old biathlete was not disqualified despite the race jury’s lengthy deliberations. However, the IBU did issue her with a warning.
Christian Winkler, Director of Communications at the Austrian-based body, explained the decision to our NRK colleagues: “She approached the judge, who gave her the reserve rifle, so she unintentionally left the mat. The jury said that this was a breach of the rules and that we take safety seriously. That’s why we had to warn her”, he explains.

And even if they concede thatIngrid Landmark Tandrevold “did her best”, the judges really had no other choice. However, the reprimand had no real consequences, as the four-time world champion will be able to take part in the pursuit scheduled for Saturday.

After undergoing heart surgery just before Christmas, the native of Bærum (Norway) has had an eventful season, to say the least. Targeted as one of the main favourites to win the overall classification, the young bride has never really been able to express herself fully. It’s a season in which I’ve been unlucky“, she admits. But I feel good, even if it’s still very hard to perform.
