Biathlon: the second Bessans selection sprint for Axel Garnier
Just a few minutes after Camille Bened won the second women’s sprint at the biathlon selection trials in Bessans (Savoie), Axel Garnier from Haut-Savoie took victory in the men’s race. A member of the Excellence 2030 federal group, he clocked the only 10/10 of the morning to win in 24 min 27 sec 2.
On the podium, very close to his time, were the pre-qualified Antonin Guigonnat (8/10) at 4 sec 4 and Gaëtan Paturel (9/10) at 6 sec 2. Two days after his victory in the first sprint, the latter took a decisive step towards the IBU Cup. Théo Guiraud-Poillot (9/10), at 12.9 seconds, just missed out on a place on the podium, while Corentin Jacob (9/10), Damien Levet (9/10), Lionel Jouannaud (8/10), ahead after the recumbent, Antonin Delsol (9/10), Jacques Jefferies (9/10) and Flavio Guy (7/10) followed in the top 10.
A more difficult day for Edgar Geny (7/10), eleventh, Martin Botet (8/10), thirteenth, Guillaume Poirot (7/10), fifteenth, Ian Martinet (8/10), sixteenth, Ambroise Meunier (6/10), seventeenth, Mathieu Garcia (8/10), eighteenth, Valentin Lejeune (7/10), nineteenth, Lou Thiévent (9/10), twenty-first, Antonin Guy (6/10), twenty-third, Paul Fontaine (3/10), twenty-fifth, and Mathieu Perrillat-Bottonet (3/10), twentieth-sixth.
Vosgien Emilien Claude, who had been pre-qualified, failed to show up. Although he was on the start list, he didn’t turn up at the Bessan gate.
