Biathlon: the end of the road for Emma Lunder
The highest-ranked Canadian in the overall World Cup standings in 2020, 2021, 2020, 2023, 2024 and 2025, 33-year-oldEmma Lunder announced on her social networks on Saturday evening that she had decided to call time on her biathlon career at the end of the season.
“It’s impossible to put into words what the last 17 years in this sport have meant to me. From my first international races in 2009 to my first World Cups, I never imagined that I would represent Canada at seven World Championships and two Olympic Games,” she wrote on Instagram.
“The milestones in my career – my first World Cup top 30, my first top 10, my first flower ceremony – have been unforgettable, she continues. But what I cherish most are the incredible people I’ve met along the way. Travelling the world while pursuing my biathlon dreams has been a privilege, and the biathlon family, both internationally and in Canada, has made this journey truly special.”
So next week, at the finals in Oslo-Holmenkollen (Norway), Vancouver’s Emma Lunder will be competing in the biathlon for the last time in her life. “I know that this chapter will remain engraved in my memory forever,” she concludes.
