Biathlon: the end of the road for Caroline Colombo
At 4.15pm on Wednesday afternoon, Caroline Colombo, 28, from Meuthiarde, announced on her social networks that she had decided to call time on her career as a top-level sportswoman.
In a magnificent video, the biathlete from the Doubs region explains her decision, forced on her by neuropathy that has prevented her from practising her sport for a year and a half. “The time has come to close a precious chapter in my life by putting an end to my biathlon career, a decision dictated by health problems. Looking back on my 58 World Cup starts, I feel immense gratitude”, she also writes.
“What touches me most is not just the races or the medals, but the unforgettable encounters. Every smile exchanged, every encouragement received and every moment shared has shaped who I am today. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved and of the bonds I’ve forged over the years,” adds Caroline Colombo.
During her years in biathlon, which were marked by a serious ankle injury in July 2017, Caroline Colombo reached two World Cup podiums, including winning the mixed relay in Nove Mesto (Czech Republic) in March 2023. The Franc-Comtoise also won the IBU Cup six times, and the small sprint globe in 2022.
