Biathlon: weather conditions alter Pokljuka programme
This Tuesday lunchtime, the IBU announced in a press release that it had changed the programme for the Biathlon World Cup in Pokljuka (Slovenia) scheduled for the coming days. The high temperatures and heavy rain forecast for the coming days have forced the organisers to revise their schedule.
As a result, the individual events will become short individual events and will take place on Thursday (11.30am for the ladies, 3.15pm for the men). The mass-starts have been brought forward to Saturday , while the mixed events will be held on the closing Sunday. “Friday becomes a reserve day used for site maintenance and as a fallback option if no competition can be held on Thursday,” it adds.
“The Pokljuka venue was in good condition last week, but the heavy rain and hot wind caused serious damage to the course, says Borut Nunar, IBU race director. The weather forecast for this week is not good either, with more rain and hot temperatures. We have therefore adjusted the competition programme to take account of these forecasts, to ensure that the competitions take place in equal and fair conditions. It’s going to be a tough week and we need to take things one day at a time.”
