Biathlon : “I’m optimistic about the next races”, says Monika Hojnisz-Starega
Last winter, after a period of maternity leave, Monika Hojnisz-Starega returned to competition, taking part in the IBU Cup events inArber (Germany) and Brezno-Osrblie (Slovakia). Last weekend, at the Polish Summer Biathlon Championships in Duszniki Zdroj (Poland), she showed that she was still capable of competing with the Polish elite, finishing fifth in the sprint and third in the mass start.
“It was my first test of this kind in roller-skiing after a long break. It’s great to have been able to compete with the girls in the main team. I know I can do better, and today wasn’t my day, but I’m optimistic for the next races”, she explained to Polish media outlet SportsinWinter.

Back on the circuit last winter, Monika Hojnisz-Starega acknowledges that the road to the very highest level remains demanding after two blank winters (2022/2023 and 2023/2024).
“To be honest, coming back is more difficult than I thought and hoped. But my approach is different. I’m doing it with a lot of pleasure,” she confides. A pleasure made possible by the support of her family. “My son accompanies me to the training camps, along with my mother, who is a caring grandmother. I couldn’t have wished for a better situation,” smiles the biathlete.

Beyond these summer national championships, this return is justone stage in her preparation. The objective is clear for the bronze medallist in the mass start at the 2013 World Championships in Nove Mesto (Czech Republic): to qualify for the next Olympic Games. ” I’d like to be in good shape there, even though I know it won’t be easy,” she assures us.
