Biathlon : “If there’s a big pot of money, we’ll come to “, says Martin Ponsiluoma
William Poromaa joked on SVTthat biathletes were “ failed skiers”. A joke that many took seriously. So why not try to make it spectacular by following the example of what Armand Duplantis and Karsten Warholm did when they competed against each other over 100 metres in athletics. So here’s the proposal put forward by Martin Ponsiluoma, in the hope that someone will take it up and perhaps create an event.
This joke was not understood by everyone and irritated some biathletes. Former biathlete Bjoern Ferry even said that Martin Ponsiluoma would probably have been in the top 3 in Sweden if he had switched to cross-country skiing. Martin Ponsiluoma and William Poromaa are currently on a course organised by the Swedish Olympic Committee in Crete. And the two men seem ready to battle it out on the track.
“We haven’t raced against each other yet, so we should do that and put an end to the debate. I never said the biathletes were bad cross-country skiers, because they’re absolutely not. I know what they do, so it would be a tough race, no doubt about it,” the 24-year-old cross-country skier told Aftonbladet.

For his part, Martin Ponsiluoma has already thought about this race and wants to turn it into a show with money at stake.
“We should put up a nice cash reward and maybe we could show ourselves off. We need to find sponsors and then you can invite us to do it. If there’s a nice pot of money, we’ll come”, assured the 29-year-old biathlete.
