Biathlon | Cross-country skiing: Bessans hosts the opening round of the French Cup
Bessans, the first French ski resort to open this season, is also the first to host national biathlon and cross-country skiing competitions. The Nordic capital of the Alps has been a training ground for French teams and committees since the early days of November, thanks to its snowfarming facilities, and will be hosting the first stages of the French Cross-Country Skiing and Biathlon Cup in a fortnight’ time.
The national cross-country skiing circuit opens on 27 and 28 November with a skate sprint followed by an individual classic. The biathlon circuit opens on 30 November and 1 December with a sprint and a short individual event. In recent days, the FFS selections have also been held here.

“Bessans is quite simply the only site in France where cross-country skiing and biathlon can be practised so early in the season, in good conditions, with the arrival of cold weather and snow”, Estelle Marty, director of the Bessans Nordic area, points out in a press release.
Situated on a high plateau at an altitude of 1,750 metres, the resort boasts 120 km of groomed pistes and an international biathlon stadium, enabling it to host major events.
