Biathlon : “I cried my eyes out”, says Karoline Simpson-Larsen
On Thursday night inÖstersund (Sweden), Norway’s Johan-Olav Botn achieved the greatest success of his career. Winner of the opening individual race of the World Cup season, the 26-year-old biathlete received a video message in the mixed zone from his partner, Norwegian team cross-country skier Karoline Simpson-Larsen.
“Hi Johan, I just wanted to say hello from home and congratulate you on your World Cup victory. It’s absolutely crazy! I’m still shaking and I cried my eyes out,” she said in a video message broadcast by NRK.
The cross-country skier added that she felt the victory was richly deserved, before concluding by saying: “I’m so happy for you, I miss you so much. Enjoy your day, and we’ll talk again.” At the sight of this video, the face of the native of Stårheim (Norway) lights up: “It means a lot to them too, so it’s even more special to see,” he smiles.
For the two athletes in their quest for the Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina, shared moments are rare during the winter. They hope to see each other at Christmas, as the first yellow bib of the winter reveals. ” It’s a bit special, but it’s also what we dream of [Milan/Cortina], it’s a bit ambivalent”, concedes the Scandinavian.
