Biathlon | Cross-country skiing: Elsa Taenglander doesn’t want to choose
Last winter, Swedish athlete Elsa Taenglander achieved a feat: becoming champion of the Gangwon 2024 Youth Olympic Games in cross-country skiing and then world youth biathlon champion in Otepää (Estonia). A top performer in both disciplines, she joined the national B biathlon team in the spring.
But does that mean she’s made up her mind at the age of 17? “I want to compete in both sports as much as possible, she told our colleagues at SVT Sport. But it’s clear that one of my big goals this season is the World Youth Biathlon Championships in Östersund, so it’s probably a good idea to focus on that.”
But the young prodigy has her contacts with the Swedish national cross-country skiing team. “I’ve met the junior coach and I know what I need to do to qualify for the most important competitions,” she admits.
In cross-country skiing, she will of course be taking part in certain rounds of the Swedish Cup, with the aim of qualifying for the World Junior Championships, while she will also be aiming for the IBU Cup in biathlon. An ambitious dual project supported by her coaches.
