Biathlon: Dorothea Wierer to be a mother
Over the last few days, biathlete Dorothea Wierer, who recently unveiled the new Italian racing suit, gave a lengthy interview to Corriere dello Sport, Italy’s leading sports newspaper. In the interview, the two-time winner of the crystal globe (2019, 2020) talked about her career leading up to the Milan/Cortina 2026 Olympic Games.
“As time is short for a woman, it wasn’t easy to decide to continue because I want to become a mother. I was [also] afraid that in a few years’ time I’d regret not having tried to take part in the Olympics back home in Antholz, she explains. [If I didn’t do that], then it made more sense to stop after the 2020 World Championships [also held in Antholz, editor’s note] when I was 30 and had my whole life ahead of me.”

This is not the first time that Dorothea Wierer has broached the subject of motherhood. When she announced her decision to pursue biathlon at the end of last winter, she had already opened up about it.
No dual sporting and family project like Justine Braisaz-Bouchet
“Was it difficult to postpone my plans [to become a mother]? Very difficult. I have lots of people around me who have children and I see how beautiful it is. It’s hard to put it off. I can’t wait to start a family with Stefano [Corradini, her husband, editor’s note], everything is already ready at home”, she explains.

For the Italian, unlikeAnaïs Chevalier-Bouchet, Justine Braisaz-Bouchet, Baiba Bendika and Marie Dorin-Habert, it’s impossible to reconcile her sporting life with her life as a mother. “I wonder where they get all that energy from, she laughs. I wouldn’t like to do it because I’d feel like I wasn’t giving 100%.”
