Biathlon: Maëlle Achoui fifth in the EYOF 2025 sprint
A few hours afterEsteban Moreira’s silver medal in the men’s biathlonsprint at the Bakuriani 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival, the French women were also aiming for a place on the podium.
However, in the wind and the Georgian snow, Les Bleues didn’t manage it. Montblanc’s Maëlle Achoui put in the best performance of the day in fifth place. With a score of 8/10, the member of the Villard-sur-Boëge ski club made one mistake too many as she missed out on the bronze medal by just 4.2 seconds.
Up front, it was Slovakia’s Michaela Strakova, as on Monday in the individual event, who won. Superior to the competition, she won at 10/10 with a 34 sec 6 lead over Slovenia’s Ajda Spitalar (10/10), in silver, and 43 sec 9 over the Czech Republic’s Lucie Jandurova (8/10), in bronze. Ukraine’s Viktoriia Khvostenko (9/10) was fourth, 2.8 seconds off the podium.
The other French girls were Romane Ouvrier-Buffet from Cluse (7/10) in tenth place, Juliette Oliva from Sallanchard (6/10) in fifteenth and Rosalie Odile from Beaufort (6/10) in nineteenth.
