In Kontiolahti (Finland), where the Biathlon World Cup opens in just over two weeks’ time, the Finnish selections took place over two sprints this weekend.
In the first race, held on Saturday morning, Olli Hiidensalo dominated the men’s competition. With a 9/10 and great speed on the cross-country track, he was well ahead of Arttu Heikkinen (8/10) by 44 sec 2 and Jaakko Ranta (9/10) by 45 sec 7. Tuomas Harjula (8/10) and Otto Invenius (8/10) followed in the rankings.
Venla Lehtonen also proved her mettle on the women’s side, winning at 9/10. Ultra-fast on skis, she beat Suvi Minkkinen (8/10) by 1 min 12 sec 9 and Lyydia Rainio (10/10) by 2 min 12 sec 2. Erika Jänkä (8/10), who spent the whole summer in France, and Sonja Leinamo (5/10) completed the top 5.
