Biathlon : first World Cup for Shawna Pendry
This Friday afternoon, during the women’s sprint at the biathlon world cup in Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie), 22-year-old Briton Shawna Pendry will have her first experience of this circuit.
Originally from the Midlands, but who has lived in the Pyrenees since she was a little girl, this regular of the Font-Romeu stadium (Pyrénées-Orientales) is going to experience the big thrill in the Aravis. I’m really looking forward to it,” she tells Nordic Magazine. I’m really looking forward to the experience! I can’t wait to race in the big leagues.

For Shawna Pendry, this discovery is going to turn her life upside down. It’s going to be completely different from anything I’ve ever experienced,” she says, well aware of what’s at stake. Already, at training sessions, there are people watching you – it’s weird! The atmosphere is going to be crazy, it’s going to be so cool.
Her dad was behind the twin during the pre-race training session
Even though she lives in France, the Briton doesn’t consider herself to be on conquered ground in Le Grand-Bornand. I wouldn’t say it’s home for me,” she confirms. Even though it’s in France, it’s a long way from home. The good thing is that I have family and friends coming to see me. That makes it all the more special.

In fact, on Thursday morning in the rain of Bornand, it was her father Ian Pendry who was behind the twin as she finished her training, taking over fromIris Pessey.
“Above all, I want to enjoy myself, give everything I can on the skis and stay focused on shooting without getting distracted,” she concludes. It’s not an easy programme to complete.
