Biathlon: Julia Simon once again crowned World Champion
In February 2024, Julia Simon left the Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto (Czech Republic) in majesty. Winner of four titles (sprint, pursuit, relay, mixed relay) and once bronzed (individual) in the Vysocina Arena, she did better than Norwegian legend Johannes Thingnes Boe to be crowned Queen of the Worlds.
This year, La Beaufortaine went into the winter’s showpiece event with just three podiums, and no victories, to her name. But that didn’t stop Julia Simon, a woman of great championships, from amassing gold in Lenzerheide (Switzerland).
It’s quite simple: in seven races contested, she was either off the podium (in the sprint, pursuit and mass start) or on her top step with the gold medal around her neck (individual, relay, mixed relay, mixed singles relay). So, with four titles, Julia Simon is once again the queen of the World Championships.
During the competition, the Savoyard climbed up the hierarchy of the most successful biathletes in the history of the world championships. With eleven gold medals to her name, she now trails only Marte Olsbu Roeiseland (13) and Magdalena Neuner (12).
