Biathlon: Marisa Emonts takes the plunge in Lenzerheide
In the recently unveiled Belgian selection for the biathlon world championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland), Marisa Emonts is a major newcomer. Aged 19 , this Belgian-German has a singular background.
The daughter of Ralph Emonts, a Belgian biathlete who competed in the IBU Cup in the late 2010s and then coached on the B circuit for a number of years, she hails from Munich (Germany), but is based in Ruhpolding (Germany). After two appearances at the World Youth Championships in 2021 in Obertilliach (Austria) and in 2022 in Soldier Hollow (USA), she decided to try her luck in Germany, her other country.

With her sights set on international selection, starting with the German Cup, she unfortunately failed to achieve her goal. As a result, Marisa Emonts has turned back the clock to continue representing Belgium internationally. It has to be said that fourth place in the relay and the prospect of the Olympic Games next winter are tempting.
“An incredible opportunity for me
Marisa Emonts managed to snatch her place at the Worlds at the European Championships in Martell-Val Martello (Italy), where she posted better results than Marine Debloem.
“They’re both the same age, and that’s good because it creates competition in Belgium, even for the youngest,” says Tom Lahaye-Goffart, a former national team biathlete who is now in charge of communications for Belgium Biathlon.
When I got the call that I’d been selected for the relay at the world championships in Lenzerheide, it was like a dream come true,” the woman in question told Nordic Magazine. Competing at the highest level alongside my idols, learning from them and gaining valuable experience is an incredible opportunity for me. I’m really grateful for it.
For Marisa Emonts, this planetary experience will also be an opportunity to make her mark in a group that she will fully integrate during the next summer preparations. ” Training with the team will help me to improve and I’m looking forward to working with everyone so that we can all give our best,” she concludes.
