Biathlon: end of the road at 25 for Filip Fjeld Andersen
Early on Monday afternoon, 25-year-old Norwegian biathlete Filip Fjeld Andersen announced the end of his high-level sporting career in a message posted on his Instagram account.
The author of two individual World Cup podiums in the 2021/2022 season, including one in the cauldron of Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie), he took part in the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games as a substitute.

Considered a nugget and one of the great hopes of Norwegian biathlon, the winner of the IBU Cup’s big globe in 2021 then struggled to establish himself. A year ago, due to a lack of results, he was withdrawn from the elite national team and spent last winter languishing in the middle of the Norwegian Cup rankings.
A moving farewell message
“Dreams are made to be fulfilled and 10-year-old Filip dreamed of becoming the best biathlete in the world. Over the last twelve years, I’ve been striving to make that dream come true, particularly over the last eight years. Every day, I’ve tried to improve a little more. There have been ups and downs along the way, he wrote in his farewell message. I’m very grateful for everything the sport has given me, good friends and fantastic memories. I’ve been able to experience things that very few people in the world get to experience. I didn’t become the best biathlete in the world, but I really got to experience what it’s like to compete with the best of the best on the biggest stage. I think 10-year-old Filip would be proud of that.”
“Even though biathlon has been my whole life so far, sport isn’t everything in life, fortunately. I’m now facing a period of identity crisis, during which I’ll no longer be a ‘biathlete’, but I’m really looking forward to seeing what the rest of my life has to offer, he continues. I’d also like to thank everyone who has supported me on the road to realising my dream.”
