Biathlon: Martin Fourcade wants his sixth Olympic gold medal at the 2026 Games
Last Friday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially crowned Martin Fourcade the 2010 Olympic mass start champion, following the disqualification of Russia’s Evgeny Ustyugov for doping.
Since this year, the man with six Olympic titles had not reacted. He waited until Tuesday afternoon to post a message on Instagram: “It took me a while to react to the official announcement […] of my sixth Olympic title […],” he begins. The wait and the legal journey have been long since February 2020 and the start of the disqualification process.”
He continued: “I feel a mixture of relief, pride and justice, even if for the moment this victory is more abstract than my other Olympic titles. I have asked the IOC to allow me to receive my new medal during the Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina 2026 to bring this adventure to a definitive close, 16 years after the day that changed my life forever. I never imagined that a biathlon race could last so long.
In fact, Martin Fourcade, then chairman of the Paris 2024 Athletes’ Commission, organised a ceremony similar to the one he is requesting for the 2024 Olympics to officially reward athletes who have been wronged by doping scandals in the past.
