Biathlon: Hanna Oeberg back on the podium at last
Hanna Oeberg was in line for a great win on Friday evening in the women’s sprint at the Biathlon World Cup in Nove Mesto (Czech Republic), but she lost her footing in the standing shoot-off. The Swede failed to hit the targets on two occasions and finally crossed the line in fourteenth place. This Saturday, in the pursuit, the 29-year-old biathlete found her smile again.

After posting a good 18/20 after making a mistake on her second dismount and another on her first standing run, the Scandinavian skier once again pulled out all the stops on her skis to mount a fine comeback. In the end, the native of Kiruna (Sweden) came second after a well-run race.

A return to the podium that the eldest of the Oeberg sisters had been waiting for since 17 December 2023, when she finished third in the mass-start in Lenzerheide (Switzerland) behind Justine Braisaz-Bouchet and her sister Elvira. It was a long resurrection, but one in which she always believed.
“This second place means a lot. I finally feel like I’m where I want to be,” she told SVT Sport. It was close all the way and it was a really fun race. I knew I had a chance. I got off to a good start and it’s a shame I let two balls slip away afterwards.

Always one of the potential outsiders on the circuit, Hanna Oeberg struggled to confirm her position despite her fine form on skis. This time, the Swede seized her chance to make up twelve places and squeeze in between France’s Julia Simon and Océane Michelon in the top 3.
