Biathlon : Emilien Jacquelin back on top in Finland
Nearly three years after his victory on 21 December 2021 on the slopes of Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie), Emilien Jacquelin returned to winning ways on Friday at the Biathlon World Cup. In the sprint at the end of the afternoon, the Frenchman even scored his first career victory in this race format.
Author of a superb 10/10, the Dauphinois also pulled out all the stops on his skis to take first place ahead of Sweden’s Sebastian Samuelsson and Germany’s Philipp Nawrath. Second fastest skier in the event behind his runner-up, the Isérois continues to impress with each passing week.
After showing good intentions in the opening Norwegian races in Sjusjøen (Norway) in mid-November, the 29-year-old biathlete went on to put in solid performances in the mixed and men’s relays in this Finnish leg.
More on the back foot in the individual short race after failing three times against the targets, Emilien Jacquelin put everyone in agreement on Friday at the end of the 10 kilometre course. And his performance made a strong impression on the foreign consultants.
And one of them was particularly moved by the Frenchman’s performance. “I had tears in my eyes. It was extremely powerful to hear his account of what he’d been through, admitted Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, biathlon legend and now expert for TV2, after hearing the interview with the Frenchman. He’s a new person. He’s become more mature. He’s concentrating more on himself. “
