Biathlon: a home podium for Tommaso Giacomel
On Sunday evening in Melbourne (Australia), Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner won his second Australian Open in a row by beating German Alexander Zverev 6/3, 7/6(7), 6/3 in the final on the Rod Laver Arena court. Biathlete Tommaso Giacomel was among those watching the down under triumph.
“This morning, I was watching tennis – I didn’t even go out for a run! I was on an exercise bike with my iPad on the handlebars watching the Australian Open final”, he told Fondo Italia. I wanted to see [Jannik] Sinner win.

Visibly inspired by his victory, the Transalpine then went on to take third place in the pursuit in Antholz (Italy) in the afternoon.
“Did that help me? He won the semi-final against [Ben] Shelton on Friday and I had a good run, and today he won the Australian Open and I also had a good run. Let’s say that helped me,” he says.
