Biathlon: Sturla Holm Lægreid finally rewarded in the overall ranking
Sturla Holm Lægreid was on a mission. Beaten fair and square by Johannes Thingnes Boe in the previous day’s sprint, the Norwegian arrived at the pursuit event at the Biathlon World Cup in Oslo-Holmenkollen (Norway) with his teeth firmly in his mouth. From the very first shot, the 28-year-old biathlete showed his rival that he would leave him no room for manoeuvre.

While the outgoing overall winner let three balls get away from him on Saturday, the current world number one shot a perfect 20/20 against the targets. He was the only competitor of the day to put in such a high-flying performance, and he then went on to do what he had to do on the boards so as not to be troubled.
A race full of mastery that left the whole field with an impression of domination. It was a race for the boss, which enabled him to seal his victory in the overall classification and win his first career crystal globe.

In front of his home crowd, Sturla Holm Lægreid even had the luxury of denying King Johannes Thingnes Boe one last title on the eve of his sporting retirement. He’s an extremely deserving and very solid champion,” admitted the outgoing world number one to TV2. He makes progress every year. Now he’s the best. I have a lot of respect for him.

Having just won the title of best biathlete on the planet, the native of Bærum (Norway) was still struggling to come to terms with the feat he had just accomplished in front of a large crowd of spectators on the track and in the stands: “It’s hard to find the words. It’s so nice to win like this here in Oslo-Holmenkollen with the yellow jersey on your shoulders,” he admitted in the mixed zone.
