Biathlon: the story of Eric Perrot’s Italian and family training camp
Since Tuesday, Peiserot biathlete Eric Perrot has been on a training camp in Prémanon (Jura) with his French team-mates Oscar Lombardot, Fabien Claude, Quentin Fillon-Maillet and Emilien Jacquelin.
However, just before this collective meeting organised at the Centre national de ski nordique et de moyenne montagne (CNSMM), the reigning world champion in the mixed relay, after a few days’ rest following the first leg of the Summer Tour, left for an eight-day training camp in the Italian Alps.

“I was with my father [Franck Perrot], his partner, my brother [Marius Perrot] and my girlfriend [former alpine skier Chloé Lacreuse]. I love being in a family environment to train, and it’s a luxury to be able to do it with them, he explains to Nordic Magazine. I have all the expertise of my father who has a lot of experience in this area [he is a coach on the Savoie committee, editor’s note]. In short, it’s a relaxing environment where I can train really well.”
Eric Perrot‘s first stop was Antholz (Italy), the venue for the next Olympic Games. “As it’s a place I’d never been to in the summer, I wanted to get my bearings on the shooting range and the renovated final, which now resembles the one in Oslo. I wanted to immerse myself in this place, which will be important in a year and a half’s time,” he says.
On the passo de Lavazè in the footsteps of the Norwegians
Although he wasn’t able to practice it at full speed, the Savoyard says he really likes the new finish at the Italian stadium. “It’s going to be very physical, unlike the old one where the opportunity to overtake was more complicated [to find], he explains. This time, the best rider will win – there’ll be no debate!”
The Frenchman then trained at the famous passo de Lavazè (Italy), almost 2 hours’ drive south of Antholz.

“I wanted to see this training site where the Norwegians often go [they are currently training there, editor’s note] and where I’d never had the opportunity to go, he says. It’s a good place to get some altitude, the piste is top notch even if I wasn’t able to ski-wheel the first few days because of the snowfall. It was a nice spot and I was able to do some intense runs on the col!”
All in all, Eric Perrot was satisfied with his week on the other side of the Alps. “I was able to do some quality work, he enthuses. This course was important for the altitude with the aim of doing a three-week block there.” Until the Summer Tour in Arçon (Doubs), he will be in hypoxia at Prémanon, an exercise he has never done before.
