Julia Simon : “I didn’t work badly”.
Sixth in the mass-start of the biathlon World Cup in Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie) on Sunday afternoon, Julia Simon was smiling under the thick flakes that covered the Sylvie-Becaert stadium: “It’s still a flower ceremony at home, which is no mean feat. After that, I’m not totally satisfied because I lacked the mental energy to go and get the full points that make the difference. I didn’t work too hard, but it’s not good.
The Villaraine rider was particularly hard hit at the start of the race: “It started very strong on the first lap, and I thought I wouldn’t be able to last five laps like that. Then the snow came and it got really tough, and we found ourselves pushing hard on the downhills. It was a real warrior’s race!

As in the pursuit, the six-time world champion took advantage of a strong last lap to pick up another good result on French soil: “My last lap was pretty good, given the energy I’d left behind beforehand, and I’m going after this flower ceremony with my head.
