Biathlon: the return of Sivert Guttorm Bakken
He is well and truly back. Winner of the closing mass-start of the 2021/2022 Biathlon World Cup and of the small globe in the speciality, Norway’s Sivert Guttorm Bakken had not experienced the joys of victory since. Struggling with a heart condition, he made an effective return to competition this winter.
Forced to secure his place in the IBU Cup during the selections at the start of the season, he has since been competing on the B circuit. With two podium finishes since the start of hostilities at the end of November, he is back on the road to success this Wednesday in Brezno-Osrblie (Slovakia).

In the individual short, Sivert Guttorm Bakken clocked a 19/20 to win by 39 sec 3 from Sverre Dahlen Aspenes (17/20) and 41 sec 6 from Isak Frey (17/20). The Norwegians also made it four wins out of four with Vetle Paulsen (19/20) in fourth place at 46.7 seconds.
The day’s flower ceremony was completed by Finland’s Olli Hiidensalo (20/20) and France’s Gaëtan Paturel (17/20), a solid sixth. Tenth place for Théo Guiraud-Poillot (18/20).
Oscar Lombardot (14/20), making his return to competition after treatment for compartment syndrome, was twenty-seventh, Rémi Broutier (15/20) thirtieth, Jacques Jefferies (15/20) thirty-second and Edgar Geny (15/20) forty-second.
