Biathlon: another success for Gilonne Guigonnat
TheIBU Biathlon Cup in Otepää (Estonia) resumed on Saturday morning with the women’s pursuit, the last of the winter to be contested on the B circuit. In the lead at the start after dominating Thursday’s sprint, Gilonne Guigonnat from Haut-Savoie put in a more than solid race to hold on to first place from start to finish.
After an opening 15/15, she missed a ball on her last trip to the mats. However, Camille Bened (19/20), her only opponent, also missed once. This status quo benefited Gilonne Guigonnat who, at 19/20, won by a margin of 15.4 seconds.

The Chablais rider had a hat-trick of podium finishes, winning the small globe for the speciality and taking the overall lead from Voldiya Galmace-Paulin by 61 points.

Gilonne Guigonnat achieved her first international sprint/chase double on this occasion. Norway’s Juni Arnekleiv (16/20) rounded off the podium just over a minute behind. Paula Botet (15/20), eighth after the last shot, was fourth, while Italy’s Rebecca Passler (16/20) took fifth place.

With an excellent 20/20, Fany Bertrand from Savoie, seventeenth at the start and even third after the fourth shot, climbed back up to sixth place and enjoyed a fine ceremony of flowers. Rounding out the top 10 were Anna Weidel (19/20), Stefanie Scherer (18/20), Frida Dokken (17/20) and Lea Meier (18/20).
