Biathlon: Bornandin Damien Levet just off the podium in the individual event at the IBU Cup in Ridnaun-Val Ridanna
Until then, on the men’sIBU Cup biathlon circuit, only one man had won: Johannes Dale-Skjevdal. The Norwegian, who took part in the World Cup this week, left a huge gap for the Ridnaun-Val Ridanna (Italy) stage, which Austrian Dominic Unterweger entered this Thursday morning in the individual race.

With the perfect shot, the 26-year-old biathlete won his first international title in masterly fashion. He was joined on the podium by Norwegian nugget Kasper Kalkenberg (18/20), second at 30.5 seconds, and Sweden’s Henning Skjoekvist (20/20), third at 37.1 seconds.

Leading until the last shot, Bornandin Damien Levet (19/20) made a fatal mistake. Fourth at 46 sec 6, he missed out on both the podium and victory as a result of this missed target. The 24-year-old from Montblanc nevertheless achieved his best-ever IBU Cup result.

Behind him, the ceremony of flowers was completed by the Czechs Petr Hak (20/20) and Tomas Mikyska (18/20). Valentin Lejeune (17/20), from the Vosges, who was ninth, took his place in the top 10 and became second overall.
Antonin Guigonnat (17/20), making his return to the IBU Cup, finished fourteenth, followed by Théo Guiraud-Poillot (17/20) in nineteenth place, Corentin Jacob (16/20) in forty-fifth and Gaëtan Paturel (14/20) in sixty-first. Relegated to the IBU Cup, Norway’s Endre Stroemsheim (17/20) is thirty-seventh, while Great Britain’s Jacques Jefferies (18/20) is twelfth.
