Biathlon: Kurvinen’s target creators highlighted by the IBU
On Saturday, following the flower ceremony for the opening mixed singles relay of the Biathlon World Cup in Kontiolahti (Finland), another ceremony took place on the Finnish podium. The President of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), Olle Dahlin, was on hand to honour Ilmo Kurvinen.
He may not be well known to the general public, but he has made a huge contribution to international biathlon as the inventor and developer of the targets that bear his name. His work began in 1979 and, over the years, innovations have improved the system and extended it to other biathlon training aids.

Kurvinen targets are among the systems approved by the IBU and are used in Kontiolahti in particular. All the family firm’s products are manufactured in Liperi (Finland), around forty kilometres from the Finnish biathlon stadium.
