Biathlon: no bib this weekend in Geilo for Emilien Claude
Vosges biathlete Emilien Claude has been back in the French men’s team for over a week now. Three months after surgery for a herniated disc, the boy from Basse-sur-le-Rupt (Vosges) has recovered sufficiently to take part in the on-snow training camp in Geilo (Norway).
The gathering will culminate in the Norwegian opening races scheduled for next weekend. But Emilien Claude won’t be taking part. Even if the response is good, I’m not going to take the risk,” he tells Nordic Magazine. The challenge is not to get hurt. In August, I hurt myself by going back perhaps a little early. That’s not the aim and the medical profession has agreed to take it easy.
“The aim is to be strong in the World Cup as early as Östersund”.
Although the Bassurois is feeling good, he has decided to play it safe. ” It’s already exceptional to be starting at the World Cup in Östersund, so I’m going to do some intense work on my own,” he says.

“The aim at Geilo is to resume intensities and intervals at race pace, but not for 25, 35 minutes of high intensity without a break. If there’s a risk, it could still be there. The aim is to be strong in the World Cup as early as Östersund, so it would be a shame to risk wasting weeks of rehabilitation and my back”, concludes Emilien Claude.
