Biathlon: Shawna Pendry finishes her first World Championships
At the start of the World Biathlon Championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland), Britain’s Shawna Pendry told Nordic Magazine how surprised she was to be able to ski the mixed relay alongside her Norwegian idol Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold.
Since then, the native of Derby (England) has taken part in several other races, finishing 77th in the sprint, 72nd in the sprint and 26th in the mixed singles relay. Ran with her compatriot Marcus Bolin Webb, the relay enabled Great Britain to take part in the World Championships for the first time since 2020. That year, Amanda Lightfoot and Vinny Fountain were at the start.
“That mixed single stint was really cool! I think my team-mate and I had a great time. It’s always difficult to be up against the best, but you learn so much and you can be proud of your day. We would have liked to have finished the race, but we fought hard and learned from our mistakes,” says Shawna Pendry. There’s always a great team spirit on these relays and I really like that.

On the whole, the Briton feels that she has “learnt a lot” from her first world championships. I’m proud of my races,” she continues. Being in an atmosphere like this and being surrounded by the greats makes you realise your strengths and weaknesses, and what you need to work on. I think I’ve got a lot out of it, and it’s all positive!
After this enchanted interlude, Shawna Pendry will end her winter… on the World Cup. On this circuit, which she discovered in December in Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie), she will compete in Nove Mesto (Czech Republic), Pokljuka (Slovenia) and Oslo-Holmenkollen (Norway) in March.
“It’s going to be great! Even if it slows down the pace of the competitions, it will allow me to concentrate fully on each one. I hope to be able to finish the season on a high,” she concludes.
