Biathlon: Michal Krcmar fell short of the podium in Switzerland
Wednesday saw the men’s individual race on the programme of the biathlon world championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland). In this race, Czech Michal Krcmar took eighth place, just over three minutes behind Eric Perrot.
After a perfect start to the race with 15/15 behind the rifle, the 34-year-old biathlete took to the shooting range in a good position – third – to win a medal and bring the Czech Republic its first individual medal of these World Championships, following the silver he won in the mixed relay.
He had also started the last shot perfectly, but missed the third and fourth balls. With a two-minute penalty, his medal hopes disappeared and he left the stadium in eleventh place.
“On the one hand, I’m very happy to have had such a great race. I fought hard, I wanted a medal and I was in the game. But of course, I’m terribly disappointed by the last standing shot. It took me a while to release my first ball, and then my legs started to shake,” he told iDNES.cz.
On the final lap, the native of Vrchlabi (Czech Republic) moved back into the top ten and eventually took eighth place. Not satisfied, he crossed the finish line with his arms outstretched in a gesture of spite.
