Biathlon: Emma Lunder and Luke Hulshof honoured by Biathlon Canada
At the very end of August, the Canadian Biathlon Federation is presenting its trophies for the 2024/2025 season. Earlier this week, the athlete of the year awards were announced.
On the women’s side, Emma Lunder, who ended her sporting career at the end of the winter, was rewarded. The most successful Canadian in the World Cup, she recorded two top 30 finishes at the World Championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland) in the sprint pursuit.

It’s a really special feeling to win the Female Athlete of the Year award, especially as it comes on the heels of my final year of competition,” she enthused in a press release. It’s a wonderful way to close this chapter, and it’s a real honour for me to receive this mark of recognition just a few months after retiring. I was proud just to be named a finalist alongside such a strong group of Canadian athletes, and I can’t wait to see who wins this award next year!”
Men’s sensation Luke Hulshof
In the men’s race, there was a surprise: 18-year-old Luke Hulshof was preferred to the World Cup biathletes, in particular Adam Runnalls.
Eighth in the sprint and ninth in the mass-start 60 at the world youth championships in Östersund (Sweden) last season, the young rider made quite an impression.
“I’m honoured to receive this award and I think it recognises all the work I’ve done, but also the tremendous support I’ve received from my family, friends, team-mates, coaches and sponsors since the start of my career. Thank you to everyone, I can’t wait to see what happens next,” he said.
