Biathlon: Dmytro Pidruchnyi rested
Far from the best places in the individual races contested in December on the biathlon world cup, Ukrainian Dmytro Pidruchnyi made several appearances at flower ceremonies in January. Fourth in the sprint and sixth in the pursuit in Oberhof (Germany), he also finished fifth in the sprint inAntholz (Italy) a few days ago.
But his momentum was cut short last Sunday in the Italian pursuit. “I felt very bad from the first lap and I couldn’t pull or ski properly. Each lap I felt worse and worse, he told his federation’s website. At one point, I realised I was going to faint. First my back hurt, then my arms and legs, my head hurt a lot and my eyes started to black out. I couldn’t do anything. The pain was terrible.”

Dmytro Pidruchnyi stopped after the third shot. “Maybe three races in a row at this altitude are affecting me, he explains. Now I hope I’ll have enough time to recover for the World Championships and regain my strength.”
He will not be taking part in the European championships in Martell-Val Martello (Italy) this week, as planned.
