Biathlon: Léo Carlier, the big man at the U19 World Championships in Östersund
Over the last ten days, 18-year-oldLéo Carlier has had a magnificent World Youth Biathlon Championships in Östersund (Sweden). In the county of Jämtland, in front of his parents and younger brother, the boy from SC Val de Morteau won five medals in the five races on the programme.
After winning the opening individual race and the mixed relay, he went on to take silver in the sprint. To round off the competition, the Mortuacian went gold by winning the mass-start 60 and the relay in quick succession. All in all, the results of his second U19 world championships are more than excellent.
These are truly incredible World Championships,” he told Nordic Magazine. I could never have imagined doing this. Five medals in five races, including two world champion titles, is incredible!
He doesn’t burst into flames
However, the Doubiste native has no intention of getting carried away by his many Swedish successes.
I’m still at a loss for words and I can’t quite picture what I’ve done, but I know I’m still in the youth category and that doesn’t define what’s to come,” he admits. I hope that it will be just as good and that I’ll continue to enjoy this sport by having as much fun at the start of each race.
The next ones are scheduled in a week’s time at the French Cup in Peisey-Nancroix (Savoie), which will support the French U19 sprint and pursuit championships. To round off his winter, Léo Carlier will be at the start of the French Championships in Les Saisies (Savoie).
