Biathlon: an adjustment to Quentin Fillon-Maillet’s rifle
Quentin Fillon-Maillet may have scored an individual podium during the first three stages of the 2024/2025 Biathlon World Cup, but his shooting performance was still lacking. With a 79% success rate, the Jura native has never had such a low percentage since his World Cup debut more than ten years ago.
At Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie) – where he shot 74%, missing 23 out of 50 shots – he struggled to find explanations. Quentin Fillon-Maillet took refuge in work during the Christmas break to find solutions.
“I called Nicolas [Chouard], my coach at home, and my father to do a session with his different, outside perspective. I tried to do a few crazy things to find out, he tells Nordic Magazine. And we found some interesting points.”

When he arrived in Oberhof (Germany) at the start of the week for the resumption of the World Cup, an adjustment was made to his rifle. “With Jean-Pierre Amat, we added 2 centimetres to the back of the stock, where I rest my shoulder, reveals Quentin Fillon-Maillet. That’s not all, there’s also the mental approach and a whole host of other things, but it enabled me to put in a great performance.” In other words, victory in the sprint held this Friday in Thuringia.
“I’ve changed quite a few things, but it’s the setting that has had the biggest effect on my position, continues the customs officer from Grandvaux. Up until now, since the start of the season, I could feel my heart beating and I was losing stability. When you’re lying down, it’s a real handicap! This time, I’ve regained a stability that I haven’t had for a long time.”
